The present article introduces the main aspects of technological innovation and its potential impact on public policy. The article focuses on the need for a new research agenda to shed light on technology and the way it will affect a set of public policies. Firstly we clarify the conceptual challenge: while many talk about the Fourth Industrial Revolution to describe the bunch of new technologies that are affecting our political and socio-economic life, we prefer to use the term Digital Era. We then refer to three different analytical strategies to look at the main impact of technological change of politics and policy. Eventually we propose a summary of the preliminary findings and future prospects of the research on technological change through the lenses of policy analysis.
